Aluminium Windows in Ghana: Price Drivers, Specification and Import Guide

Looking for products and prices? See aluminium sliding door price in Ghana for the systems we supply.

Aluminium windows Ghana price searches usually end in frustration, because the number depends on choices most buyers have not yet made: profile series and wall thickness, glass type, hardware grade, finish, and whether the frames are fabricated locally or imported as a finished system. This guide explains what moves the price, what the Ghanaian climate demands of a window, how to measure openings so the order fits, and how to decide between local fabrication and importing a complete door and window package from China.

Specifying for Ghana's climate: heat, humidity, salt air

Ghana's coast from Takoradi through Accra to Tema is hot, humid and salt-laden. Inland cities such as Kumasi are humid with heavy seasonal rain. A window specified for a temperate market will fail early here.

Heat. Dark powder-coated frames in direct sun reach high surface temperatures. Specify thermally broken profiles for air-conditioned rooms, and consider lighter colours or wood-grain finishes on west-facing elevations. Double glazing with a tinted or Low-E outer pane reduces the load on air conditioning; the saving is real but should be weighed against the higher glass cost.

Humidity. Hardware with plated steel components corrodes. Specify stainless steel screws, rollers and hinge pins. Use EPDM gaskets, which keep their shape in heat, rather than PVC.

Salt air. Within a few kilometres of the sea, specify a powder-coat system designed for marine exposure or a thicker anodised layer, and seal cut ends of profiles during fabrication. Rinse-down maintenance twice a year extends life.

Rain and wind. Sliding windows depend on drainage slots in the sill. Specify adequate drainage and a sill upstand; where rain is driven by wind, casement windows with compression seals perform better than sliders.

Security. Multi-point locking, laminated glass on ground-floor openings, and integrated grilles where the client wants them. Grilles designed into the frame look better and fit better than grilles welded on afterwards.

Doors: the same logic, higher loads

Aluminium entrance doors, sliding patio doors and bi-fold doors carry more weight and more use. Specify heavier profile series, stainless running gear, and toughened or laminated safety glass throughout. For lift-and-slide and bi-fold systems, the floor track must be set perfectly level, which is a construction detail to agree with the contractor before the floor screed is poured.

Measuring openings correctly

Windows made to drawing dimensions rarely fit. Measure the structural opening after rendering, before tiling or plastering the window reveal.

  • Measure width at top, middle and bottom; use the smallest.
  • Measure height at left, centre and right; use the smallest.
  • Check the opening for square by comparing diagonals.
  • Record sill depth and whether the frame sits flush with the inner or outer face.
  • Note the direction of opening and which panes are fixed.
  • Photograph each opening with its reference number chalked on the wall.

Deduct the fitting tolerance the fabricator specifies; a window ordered to the exact opening size cannot be installed.

Import versus local fabrication

Ghana has aluminium fabricators in every major city, and for small or simple projects a good local fabricator is often the right choice. The case for importing strengthens when the project needs system profiles, double glazing, large sliding or bi-fold units, a consistent finish across many openings, or a coordinated package with doors, kitchens and other joinery arriving together.

A common hybrid is to import the main living-area sliding doors, feature windows and front door, and have standard bedroom windows fabricated locally to the same colour reference.

Glass and safety basics

Toughened glass is standard for doors, low-level glazing and bathrooms. Laminated glass holds together when broken and is preferred for ground-floor security. Tinted glass reduces glare and heat gain; grey and bronze tints are common in Ghana. Confirm glass thickness against pane size: large sliding panes need thicker or laminated glass to avoid deflection and vibration.

Installation and handover

Frames should be fixed to the structural opening with the fabricator's specified anchors, packed level and plumb, and sealed externally with a UV-stable silicone over a backer rod. Weep holes must be left clear. Remove protective film within the period the finish supplier specifies; in strong sun, film left too long bakes onto the frame. Walk every opening at handover: operate each sash, lock and unlock, check drainage with a bucket of water, and record any snag with a photo.

Where Decoropic fits

Decoropic, the brand of Foshan Home Style Import & Export Co., Ltd. (established 2011, Foshan), supplies aluminium doors and windows as one of its five categories and measures openings in Ghana through its Accra office at 15 Bermudagrass St (GhanaPost GPS GE-310-2536). Windows and doors are produced in Guangdong to the measured sizes, inspected and consolidated with kitchens, wardrobes, sanitaryware and lighting at the Foshan warehouse, shipped to Tema with clearing partners, and installed with supervision from Decoropic's technician. No minimum order; T/T or L/C.

FAQ

Is uPVC a better choice than aluminium in Ghana? uPVC insulates well and does not corrode, but it expands in heat and can discolour under strong UV unless the compound is formulated for tropical use. Aluminium is more rigid for large openings and more common in Ghana. Both work when specified correctly.

How thick should the aluminium profile be? Thicker walls and multi-chamber system profiles are more rigid and are needed for large sliding doors and tall windows. The specific wall thickness depends on the profile series and span; ask for the fabricator's or system supplier's span table rather than a single number.

Can spare parts be sourced in Ghana for imported windows? Rollers, handles and gaskets for common system profiles are usually interchangeable, but ship a spares kit with the order to be safe.

How long from measurement to installation? Allow design and approval, production, about 30 days port-to-port sea transit from southern China, clearance at Tema and installation. The production and clearance durations are confirmed at quotation.
