Bathroom Fittings Suppliers in Ghana: What to Import and What to Buy Locally
Planning the whole room? See bathroom renovation Ghana for the bathroom and kitchen systems we supply.
Comparing bathroom fittings suppliers in Ghana comes down to one question per item: is this better imported as part of a matched set, or bought locally where it can be replaced in an afternoon? A bathroom combines ceramics, brassware, glass, cabinetry and the plumbing that connects them, and the right answer differs for each. This guide splits a Ghana bathroom into its parts, explains the water-pressure and fitting-standard issues that catch importers out, and sets out what a workable warranty and spares arrangement looks like for a house in Accra, Tema or Kumasi.
The parts of a bathroom and where to buy each
| Item | Import from China | Buy locally in Ghana | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| WC (close-coupled, back-to-wall or wall-hung) | Yes, as part of a matched set | Basic close-coupled available | Matched design across bathrooms; wall-hung frames rarely stocked locally |
| Concealed cistern and frame | Yes | Limited | Needs to be specified with the WC pan and the wall build-up |
| Basin and vanity unit | Yes | Pedestal basins available | Vanity units are joinery and suffer the same local constraints as kitchens |
| Taps and mixers | Yes | Basic ranges | Cartridge quality and finish durability vary widely |
| Shower set (mixer, rail, head, hand shower) | Yes | Basic ranges | Thermostatic and concealed sets rarely stocked |
| Shower enclosure and glass | Yes, measured on site | Local glaziers can supply | Frameless enclosures need accurate measurement; local toughened glass is workable for simple screens |
| Bath | Yes, if specified | Limited | Bulky; only worth shipping as part of a container |
| Mirror and cabinet | Yes | Plain mirrors available | LED mirrors and cabinets are an import item |
| Accessories (towel rail, holders, hooks) | Yes, matched to brassware finish | Available | Match finish to taps; buy as a set |
| Floor drains and traps | Yes, matched to tile thickness | Available | Confirm outlet size matches local pipe |
| Pipes, fittings, valves, PPR or PVC | No | Yes | Local standard; plumbers know the system |
| Wall and floor tiles | Special formats only | Yes, locally manufactured | Ghana now produces standard tiles |
| Waterproofing membrane and grout | No | Yes | Consumable; available locally |
| Water heater | Either | Yes | Buy for 230 V, 50 Hz; local service support matters |
The pattern is clear: import the visible, matched, hard-to-source items as a set, and buy the pipework, consumables and anything that may need same-day replacement locally.
Water pressure: the issue that breaks imported showers
Many Ghanaian houses are fed by a roof tank or a ground tank with a booster pump. Pressure at the shower therefore depends on tank height or pump setting, not on a utility main.
- Gravity-fed from a roof tank gives low pressure. Thermostatic mixers and rain showers specified for pressurised systems may perform poorly. Specify low-pressure-rated mixers, or add a booster pump.
- Pump-fed systems can give high and fluctuating pressure. Specify fittings rated for the pump's maximum and fit a pressure-reducing valve if the pump is oversized.
- Hot and cold balance. If hot water comes from an instantaneous heater at low pressure and cold from a pump, a mixer will struggle. Balance the two supplies or use a heater that suits the system.
Record the water supply arrangement at measurement stage and give it to the supplier with the bathroom specification. It is far cheaper to specify the right cartridge than to replace forty mixers.
Fitting standards and compatibility
Imported sanitaryware must connect to local plumbing. Check these before ordering.
| Check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Pipe thread standard | Local plumbing in Ghana generally uses BSP-threaded fittings; confirm imported brassware and flexible connectors are BSP, not NPT |
| Waste outlet sizes | Basin and bath wastes, WC outlet position and diameter, floor drain outlet matched to the local waste pipe |
| WC outlet type | Horizontal (P-trap) or vertical (S-trap) to match the drainage already cast into the slab; rough-in distance from the wall |
| Wall-hung WC frame | Wall build-up and stud depth; the frame must be ordered with the pan |
| Angle valves and connectors | Supply with the set; local sizes may differ |
| Water heater connections | Inlet and outlet sizes; electrical rating at 230 V, 50 Hz |
| Shower tray and drain | Tray outlet position relative to the floor drain; tile thickness for the drain height |
Ask the plumber to confirm the drainage positions on site, with photos and dimensions, before the sanitaryware is drawn. The WC rough-in is the most common mismatch.
Specifying by tier
| Element | Functional | Mid-Range | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| WC | Close-coupled, dual flush | Back-to-wall with concealed cistern | Wall-hung with frame, soft-close seat |
| Basin | Pedestal or semi-pedestal | Vanity unit with countertop basin | Stone or solid-surface vanity, wall-hung |
| Shower | Exposed mixer, rail kit | Concealed mixer, fixed head and hand shower | Thermostatic, rain head, body jets where pressure allows |
| Enclosure | Framed sliding | Semi-frameless | Frameless 8 to 10 mm toughened glass |
| Brassware finish | Chrome | Brushed nickel or matte black | PVD finishes for coastal durability |
| Accessories | Standard chrome set | Matched to brassware | Matched, with heated towel rail |
Coastal humidity and salt air attack brassware finishes. PVD-coated finishes resist corrosion better than conventional plating and are worth specifying in Tema, Accra and Takoradi at Mid-Range and above.
Warranty and spares
A warranty on imported sanitaryware is only useful if parts can reach you. Agree the following with the supplier at order:
- Spares kit shipped with the order: mixer cartridges, flush valves and fill valves for the cisterns, seals, shower hoses, soft-close seat hinges. One set per five to ten bathrooms is a common ratio.
- Who diagnoses a fault: the supplier's technician at installation, then a nominated local plumber.
- How replacement parts travel: with the next container, or by courier for small items.
- What is excluded: damage from debris in the pipework, incorrect pressure, or installation not supervised by the supplier.
Flush the pipework before connecting any imported brassware. Construction debris in the lines is the most common cause of early cartridge failure and is not a product defect.
Installation sequence
- Confirm drainage and supply positions against the drawing
- Waterproof and tile walls and floor; set the floor drain to the tile level
- Install wall-hung frames or back-to-wall cisterns before tiling if specified
- Fit the WC, basin and vanity
- Fit the concealed mixer body before tiling; trim and heads after
- Install the enclosure after the tray or floor is finished and measured
- Fit accessories and mirror last

FAQ
Can I import just the taps and showers and buy the ceramics locally? Yes. Brassware is where imported quality shows most. If you do this, make sure the basin and bath tap holes and the shower rough-in match the imported fittings before the plumber starts.
Does Ghana require any certificate for sanitaryware? The Ghana Standards Authority lists used sanitary ware among prohibited used goods under its conformity programme; new sanitaryware is not named in the broad groups published, but confirm current coverage of your HS codes with your clearing agent before shipment.
What finish lasts longest near the coast? PVD finishes outperform standard chrome plating in salt air. Chrome remains acceptable inland and in Functional-tier bathrooms with regular cleaning.
Should the shower enclosure come from China or be made locally? Frameless enclosures with matched hardware are an import item and must be measured after tiling. Simple framed screens can be made by local glaziers to a good standard.
